CONGRATULATIONS TO JOANNE MYLER
FOR BREAKING 100 FOR THE FIRST TIME
AT NORTH HALTON!
Joanne said she wasn't doing any bragging about this as she felt it was no big deal. She said her expectations are much higher. It was coincidental that she mentioned this as I have been questioning my own expectations recently and had written this before my conversation with Joanne.
High Expectations
Is there a point where you lower them? Or do you? Is it a good thing or bad thing to have lower expectations? Would it be less stressful if I didn’t expect so much? Or would my game deteriorate if I accepted anything less than a good shot?
It’s really not an easy question. Of course, as we age our game deteriorates – it happens to the best. You just have to watch Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player when they hit the ceremonial tee shot every year at Augusta. These two men were the best in the World for a long time, but they are disappointed if they don't hit a good shot.
When you have had success in the past it only makes it more difficult to realize the perfect shots are becoming fewer and farther between.
A Pro at my Club once said to someone else when I was standing there that I was a “feel” player. No one had said that to me before, but he was absolutely right. I know immediately after I hit a shot if it was anywhere near the centre of the face of the club or not. But with the advancements made in technology over the years you can have an off center shot turn out ok.
A friend had said once: “don’t spoil a shot with your mouth”. Meaning – wait until it stops before passing judgement.
I think I will try that. It won’t be easy.
Note: Your feedback is welcome!
