CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE QUICKLY APPROACHING. YOU SHOULD KNOW HOW TO
PROCEED WHEN FACED WITH THE
THE SITUATIONS BELOW.
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Red penalty area - when it is known or virtually certain that a ball is in a red penalty area and the player wishes to take relief, the player has three options each for one penalty stroke as shown on the diagram below.
Yellow penalty area - when it is known or virtually certain that a ball is in a yellow penalty area and the player wishes to take relief, the player has two options, each for one penalty stroke as shown on the diagram below.
Unplayable Ball - Rule 19 - 1 penalty stroke. When a player decides her ball is unplayable she has 3 options as shown on the diagram below.
Unplayable ball in bunker - there is 4 options for unplayable ball in a bunker. All options are one stroke, but option 4 below is two strokes.
Taking relief from abnormal ground conditions - Rule 16. This is one that we often get confused with. The key to this rule is that you must always drop to the nearest position, not the nicest. The path on #18 is an example where you may have to drop on the hill on the right side of the path. Here is a link to an excellent video of how to take relief. Click here.
IF YOU DON'T HAVE A RULE BOOK OR DON'T WANT TO CARRY ONE, THE USGA APP PICTURED BELOW IS GREAT. THE VIDEO I LINKED TO ABOVE IS ON THERE ALONG WITH A LOT OF OTHER VIDEOS.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE PLAYING IN THE CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS!
