Mr. Willoughby was described as the greatest golf enthusiast in Canada! In the Fall of 1922 he invited the finest Amateurs and Professionals in the area to play in his tournament without cost and donated all the prize money for the Professionals. The Amateurs were given silver flasks, silver cigarette cases and travelling bags. Twenty-seven Professionals competed and almost 70 Amateurs.
It was the unanimous opinion of both the Pros and Amateurs that it was the most wonderful 9 holes of golf in Canada.
Mr. Willoughby welcomed all to his magnificent private residence after play.
Winner of the Amateur Competition was Mr. Frank Thompson of Mississauga shooting 75, The Professional winner was Mr. Nicol Thompson of Hamilton shooting 74-81.
